Position Summary: Joining the WIN team as an Associate Network Engineer is an integral role within the Network Engineering department.
Individual contributions are highly valued as part of a team that supports a network across six midwestern states.
This position demands a diverse range of responsibilities to plan, operate and maintain a fiber optic-based network through the life cycles of the various technologies in use.
Team members are expected to acquire broad knowledge that encompasses many network service provider technologies and to enforce policies based on industry standards groups like the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).
A successful Associate Network Engineer will remain current and informed on IT industry trends in order to identify emerging technologies that can be applied to the WIN network.
Primary Responsibilities: Become a subject matter expert in networking topics as they relate to the WIN network and its customers.
Act in a consultative role to both external contacts and internal colleagues.
Design and engineer distributed communication systems consisting of optical transport, ethernet transport and IP-based network infrastructure that together support vital communication services such as voice, data and video transmission.
Participate in developing requirements to evaluate and integrate new technology into the existing network.
Provide innovative solutions to common challenges using a multi-vendor, standards-based approach.
Handle various functions associated with the operation and maintenance of network elements including but not limited to problem diagnosis/repair, traffic analysis, network capacity audits and monitoring/alerting.
Collaborate with the Network Management Center to develop support tools and tier two escalation services for network systems.
Courteous and professional communication skills required in direct interactions with customers.
Associate Network Engineers participate in 24x7 on-call rotations for after-hours support of the network.
Technical Skills: LAN based technologies and protocols WAN based technologies and protocols Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) CompTia Network+ Network-based security Scripting Network Operating System experience Minimum Qualifications: Possess a 2 year (minimum) or 4 year (preferred) degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Computer Science or related field combined with 2 years’ experience supporting networks.
Additional Position Details: Possess understanding of LAN based routing and switching protocols Possess basic understanding of WAN based transport technologies, i.
