Job Summary: The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership and management of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital’s nursing departments.
This includes strategic planning, implementation of policies and procedures, staff management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Essential Job Functions Strategic Functions: Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive nursing program tailored to the unique needs of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital.
Collaborate with departmental leaders to establish and maintain high patient satisfaction and quality outcomes.
Facilitate nursing improvement initiatives to enhance the organizational mission.
Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with external organizations and healthcare providers.
Continually assesses services provided, identifies problems, and utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions.
Operational Functions: Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop and implement care plans.
Addresses questions and concerns by physicians and other healthcare providers.
Communicates pertinent hospital information to Medical Staff and Leadership Team.
Monitor and evaluate patient care outcomes.
Enhance and implement evidence-based practices in nursing.
Develops nursing staffing plan in collaboration with nursing leadership and Chief Nursing Officer.
Monitors overtime costs, vacancies, and turnover rates and ensures necessary staffing is provided for efficient and effective operation amongst all nursing departments.
Prepares annual capital budget requests including CERs.
Participates in High Priority Reviews and Root Cause Analyses and leads solution focused direction based on outcomes.
Completes annual review of Clinical Care policies.
Interprets, implements, and monitors Joint Commission, state, and federal regulations pertaining to departmental functions.
Ensures organizational compliance with all regulatory standards.
Effectively and positively implements change management initiatives.
Evaluates and adapts actions as the hospital and external healthcare environment changes.
Hire, onboard, orientate, train, and develop nursing leadership.
Interprets, executes, and enforces the policies and procedures of the hospital and the nursing departments.
Leadership Functions: Direct, administer and manage the operations of assigned functions.
Assign tasks and review work of direct reports.
Monitor direct reports adherence to Hospital protocols and procedures.
Provide performance management directive including annual evaluations, coaching, development and corrective action.
Engage in staff development through education and training.
Ensure direct reports have adequate equipment and resources to carry out job duties and responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to instruct and train in policies and procedures.
Ability to prepare performance evaluations and make recommendations regarding unsatisfactory employees.
Ability to assign work, add or delete, plan work and establish priorities.
Ability to comprehend, retain and apply the requirements of any governmental or regulatory body.
Ability to exhibit strong communication, presentation and listening skills to ensure facility-wide collaboration and coordination.
Ability to build consensus and commitment among various stakeholders.
Ability to understand and address complex issues in the critical areas of healthcare, including but not limited to regulatory/legislative changes and physician partnerships.
Ability to maintain high ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism consistent with OakLeaf’s Customer Service Standards Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
Ability to participate in the clinical on-call rotation.
Ability to attend meetings outside of normal business hours as needed.
Equipment Knowledge Required: Ability to operate various types of equipment – standard office equipment, computers, and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and other programs as assigned.
Ability to use Electronic Medical Record system.
Other equipment could be required.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability: Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.
S.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school required.
Master’s Degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
Must obtain a graduate degree within 2 years of hire.
Two or more years of nursing leadership experience in an acute care setting.
Perioperative nursing experience is preferred.
Current State of Wisconsin license as a Registered Nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
