Functions of the Job
The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional staff by performing various resident care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the residents.
The Certified Nursing Assistant is the essential link between the resident and the Licensed Nursing staff because of their constant direct interaction.
Education and Experience
Current Wisconsin State Certified Nursing Assistant License
Current CPR Certification – Will provide in-house certification.
A minimum of five years of long-term care experience is preferred, but not required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provides patients with personal hygiene by giving baths and showers, brushing teeth, combing hair, cleaning glasses, assisting with bathroom needs, and giving shaves.
Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding residents as necessary; ambulating, turning, repositioning, and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials, answering resident call lights and requests, reporting observations of the resident to the nursing supervisor, and answering alarmed residents in a timely fashion.
Documents resident’s care and other actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records in electronic charting systems or paper as needed.
Appropriately and accurately records intakes and outputs of residents.
Follows resident care plans appropriately and uses all assistive devices as written in the care plan for the resident.
Follows resident restorative programs and completes all daily restorative tasks for each resident.
Reports need for changes in resident care plans to supervising nurse.
Maintains resident stability by checking vital signs and weight, and provides this information to nursing on duty or when otherwise directed.
